15th Annual Chicken Wing Off This Sunday August 15

The Wing Off returns to the Fernwood Hotel and Resort Great Lawn this Sunday, August 15 from noon to 4 pm. All wing sales benefit Monroe County Meals on Wheels. Over fifty kinds of wings available on a pay as you go basis. Live entertainment, a Pepsi play area, festival foods and lots of fun. Festival attendees vote for “best” wings in the Pocono Mountain region. All for a great cause. Over 15 restaurants and vendors participating this year.  Wings are judged in four categories: Chef’s Choice, Most Original, People’s Choice Hottest Wing, and People’s Choice for Best Tasting Wing. Category winners receive an award plaque, advertising and a check for $250 donated by sponsors Whitebriar Financial, ESSA Foundation, RCI and Stone Trembly and Associates. Best of all, they get bragging rights to boast best wings for 2010.

NBC Television Sportscaster Vai Sikahema loves the Segway Tour at Fernwood Hotel and Resort

The official start of summer – Happy July 4th to all. There will be a lot happening throughout the Poconos this weekend with Fireworks displays at Shawnee Mountain and Camelbeach on Saturday night. There will be a day long July 4th picnic on the Fernwood Great Lawn on Saturday, July 3. Traditional games and a pay as you go barbecue starting at 10 am on Saturday. Open to all. Afterwards, head up to Shawnee for the fireworks that benefit the Shawnee Fire Company.

The weather is going to be beautiful and hot. Perfect for a day on the Delaware River canoeing. You can rent a canoe or raft from River Country located on the Resort off River Road, and spend the day cooling off on the scenic Delaware.  

We had NBC Channel 10 television personality Vai Sikahema here this week and introduced him to the fun of a Segway Tour. He loved it and so will you. Give it a try. It is a great way to see the resort while gliding around with the wind in your face.

Segway Tours Coming to Fernwood Hotel and Resort

Yes, the newest Pocono attraction is the introduction of Segway tours. Now you can experience this new way to see nature at Fernwood Hotel and Resort with the introduction of Segway Tours. The tour will last about an hour and cost about $30. The tour will follow a route through the paved roads of the resort starting out of the parking lot next to the stables near the lake. You will see the trailer from Route 209. Great fun.

Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend and the Unofficial Start of Summer in the Poconos at Fernwood

Golf this weekend on the 18 hole par 71 Fernwood Course.

Yes, it is here. Warm temps, afternoon thunderstorms and all the fun of happenings throughout the Poconos. There is a lot going on this weekend with the opening of Camelbeach Waterpark for the 2010 season, the Shawnee Mountain Celtic Festival, local parades remembering our fallen heros, and the predicition of sunny skies. It brings you back to the simpler days of playing cards attached to your bike spokes, American Flags on the handle bars and a smile on your face. Fernwood has live entertainment this weekend with lots planed for the summer months including the return of Friday Comeday Nights at Wintergreens Patio Grill.

Spring has sprung in the Pocono Mountains.
