Food Drive for Bushkill Outreach

As a result of reading and viewing this article [ WNEP news article with video: "Food Pantries in Dire Need" - By Wendy McNew - 5:44 PM EDT, August 20, 2009 ] Fernwood Hotel & Resort has organized a food drive for the Bushkill Outreach food pantry. We already had this years Community 2 Day Yard Sale on October 10th and 11th scheduled but saw the need for a more immediate response to their current needs. Help us pull together a sizable donation of food stuffs to offset the lack of funds used for purchasing food for the 1000 people that Bushkill Outreach connects with monthly.

The food drive is not limited to the employees of Fernwood Hotel & Resort. The Human Resources department will except donations from anyone already coming to the Bushkill Group corporate building but we encourage all others to make the short drive up the road to the Bushkill Outreach center to make your donations. Your personal appearance will go a long way in supporting and uplifting the volunteers on site.

- Coming from the Stroudsburg area the building is approximately 2 miles up from Fernwood on Route 209 just past the blinking light – using an old church as their facility.

Community 2 Day Yard Sale – Benefits Bushkill Outreach

This year has been particularly hard on PA Nonprofits as our state budget has yet to be resolved. Local food banks like Bushkill Outreach are finding it difficult to make ends meet with little to no funds flowing in from the state. More and more people are making use of food banks as the bad economy has hit households and stretched already thin budgets to the breaking point and beyond.

Last years Community Yard Sale raised close to $5000.00 from donated items and table rentals. We hope to double those funds raised as this years event will span two days instead of one. As last years press release stated many items already donated to the Bushkill Outreach and additional donations by hotel employees will be up for sale, including collectibles, games, childrens toys, musical instruments and much more. So if you’re in the neighborhood or even if you’re not plan on stopping by and make a few purchases to benefit the important work that the people at the Bushkill Outreach do on this communities behalf.

Table rental ($25 for a 10 x 10 space) proceeds benefit Bushkill Outreach, a community food pantry dedicated to feeding, clothing and supporting those in need in the greater Bushkill area.

What? Spring 2009 Regional Championships

When? September 11th to 12th

Where? Fernwood Hotel & Resort – Route 209, Bushkill PA 18324 – 888-FERNWOOD (888-337-6966)

Kicking off the event will be a Friday night 6:00 pm Early Strikers Shootout Tournament followed up with a Big Points Deep Stack Tournament @ 8:00 pm. The Regionals Championship tournament will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday with check in/registration @ 1:30 pm. Sit & Gos will be running during the day Saturday and rounding out the event will be an 8:00pm PA vs NJ Tournament to settle this years debate as to which state is truly the best!

Celebration of the Arts Jazz Festival

New – Monthly $25 EZCard Drawing

Every month the Fernwood Hotel and Resort will have a drawing for it’s twitter followers. Everyone that’s a follower will automatically be entered no matter when they began following us on twitter.
 
Let us explain what an EZCard is. The Fernwood Hotel and Resort has created an on property debit card for use by anyone that doesn’t want to carry cash around and enjoys the ease of a card type transaction. EZCards are loaded with real cash values and spend like cash at any of the resorts restaurants and most of it’s amenities like horseback riding, golf, the gamezone arcade and in winter for snowtubing. For clarity the EZCard only has value within the resort property and will not be honored by any establishment outside the resort, for example at a local gas station.
 
The resort started this contest to bring awareness to our new twitter channel where our hope is to allow past and future guests to connect with us easily and in a more informal environment. Fernwood realizes that social media has been around for a number of years and we’ve witnessed the adoption by other major brands not only in the hotel and travel industry but by large and small corporations alike. Although we’re new to the arena of social media we are striving to open the channels of communications to our patrons and the public at large. This blog is another new channel where we’ll be sharing information about the resort, the poconos in general and other topics of interest.
